
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, The Aurora Chapter is now accepting applications for our 2011 - 2012 Ivy Leadership Academy. This 10-month program is designed exclusively for pre-teen African American girls grades six (6) through eight (8) who attend school in or reside in the Aurora Area. Participants will benefit from a rigorous curriculum designed to; develop life-long skills, promote leadership, build confidence, and encourage self-efficacy.
Ivy Leadership Academy workshops will address the unique needs of pre-teen girls, and equip them with the skills necessary to emerge victorious in all academic and social endeavors. Workshops will incorporate skill development in the areas of:
- Self-esteem
- Health
- Community service
- Post-secondary education & career choices
- Domestic violence & healthy relationships
- Peer pressure & safe choices
- Public Speaking
- Defying media perceptions of beauty
The application form and other important program information is attached, please share this with young ladies who you feel may benefit from this program. The application deadline is June 30, 2011. Space is limited therefore late applications WILL NOT be accepted. Participants will be notified by mail once they are accepted into the program.
