The Aurora Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in support of the Emerging Young Leaders program, has developed the Ivy Leadership Academy or ILA.  ILA is 10-month program is designed exclusively for pre-teen African American girls grades six (6) through eight (8) who attend school in or reside in the Aurora Area. Participants will benefit from a rigorous curriculum designed to; develop life-long skills, promote leadership, build confidence, and encourage self-efficacy.

Ivy Leadership Academy workshops will address the unique needs of pre-teen girls, and equip them with the skills necessary to emerge victorious in all academic and social endeavors. Workshops will incorporate skill development in the areas of:

• Self-esteem

• Health

• Community service

• Post-secondary education & career choices

• Domestic violence & healthy relationships

• Peer pressure & safe choices

• Public Speaking

• Defying media perceptions of beauty
